Ashley Hughes scored 15 points and Sulphur beat Perkins-Tryon 42-34 to win a Class 3A girls state championship game featuring teams that had both reached the finals undefeated.
The Lady Demons (28-1) were never able to recover after being held to just two points in the first quarter of Saturday's game. Sulphur (30-0) led by 10 at halftime and withstood a string of six straight Perkins-Tryon points to start the second half that cut the lead to 19-15 - before pulling away again.
It is the first state championship for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jordan Gorham led Perkins-Tryon with 13 points and Bailey Wensler added 11.
