ECU Women’s Golf Starts Spring Season at St. Edward’s Women’s Classic

The East Central University women’s golf team will return to the links for the first tournament of the spring portion of the 2013-14 season, Feb. 23-25. The Lady Tigers will be one of 13 teams at the St. Edward’s Women’s Classic at Grey Rock.

ECU will be playing against strong competition, as six of the teams are in the top 35 in the national rankings on GolfStat and three more are in the top 100. The host Hilltoppers are the top team in the tournament, ranked No. 6. Indianapolis comes in as the No. 10 team, Arkansas Tech No. 17, Hawaii Hilo No. 22, Nova Southeastern No. 26 and Sonoma State No. 33.

The Lady Tigers will also be up against California East Bay, Incarnate Word, Lubbock Christian, McMurry, St. Mary’s and Western New Mexico.

ECU will have an experienced group at the tournament, with two juniors, two sophomores and a freshman that all saw action in the fall portion of the season.

Freshman Molli Taylor competed in all five events for the Lady Tigers during the fall and finished first on the team with an 80.6 average. Junior Lindsey Lunceford was second on the average list with an 81.5 in four events.

Sophomore Sarah Delong saw action in three events, with an 84.7 average. Sophomore Madison Myers participated in two tournaments, with an 82.25 average and junior Sara Posey hit an 82 average in one outing.
