Cornerback Zack Sanchez entered last season as an unknown on Oklahoma's defense as the Sooners rebuilt following a disastrous end to the 2012 season.
He earned a starting spot and steadily improved, capping the 2013 season with a star turn in a win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Only a sophomore, Sanchez now is considered a leader of a defense touted by some as one of the nation's best.
That's a major jump in the span of 12 months but Sanchez has shown the relaxed poise of a veteran during the opening days of practice for the this season, which will begin Aug. 30 against Louisiana Tech.
Sanchez says he relishes the chance to be a team leader and that he wants to maximize every opportunity that he can.
