SHERMAN, Tex. -- It's the Battle of the Ax and bragging rights are on the line. Denison and Sherman take to the field for the annual tradition on Friday night.

Did you know this is one of the biggest rivalries in the state of Texas? In fact, it's been going on for so long know one really knows when the first game started, but we think it was in 1912.

Since then there have only been four games not played, three of which were during World War II.

The winner takes home the ax as a grand prize.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bearcat Stadium in Sherman. Sherman is the reigning champions.

First News will be live from Bearcat Stadium and we’ll have all the postgame highlights and scores from around Texoma on the Friday Night Blitz and

I put together a free 16 minute highlight video on covering the game, beginning to end. You can find it at, find my link on the left (Dallas, TX) and then select the week 13 videos (2 parts). Enjoy!

What made Jordan Taylor so good was he had to play qb when he was a top reciever for the season I don't see madison carter doing that and returning kicks and playing punt return and free safty now do you? Next year denison returns Jordan and D.J. Jones who by the way that was a his first start this season coming off of a season full of injures according to Earl Campell Texas Football he looks like the next great Denison runner. He proved that and remember what happend to the last denison great runner he didn't lose the ax his whole career (Corey Roberston). Bright future for the jackets.

awesome game sherman just made little mistakes...waymon james is a god... I hate all the hype jordan taylor gets when madison carter is just as good... next year you'll see.... neither team picks the ref so its not either teams fault for calls.... john welbourns fumble was a clean one and denison got 7 points they shouldnt have

blame it on the sherman coach and quarterback. they have a great running back and didn't use him enough. when they did they were good. If your not a very good running quarterback, why call so many options and why did the qb think he was better than #21. losing 21 seniors will hurt sherman, but#21 will be back. glad the qb won't.

No need for spellcheck on blog, please. I'm sure you're perfect in every way, spellchecker.....let people have their say w/out having the need to correct. Or were you one of those "class teacher pets" who always interrupted to correct someone when they mispronounced or misspelled anything? Oh...back to the subject.....HOW BOUT DEM YELLOWJACKETS?!!!! Heard alot of trash talk this week from some of Sherman's "elite" football seniors. As my favorite Coach, Marty Criswell always said..."It's great to be a Yellow Jacket"....

Great comeback by Denison (even though I am a Shermanite). I sat in my car and listened to the 4th quarter on the radio. I agree that it would be fun to have it televised locally.
