A+ Athlete: Laura Heers

To honor this week's A+ Athlete, we travel over to Cooke County. Muenster High School is known for its girls basketball and academics. David Reed found one young lady that excels in both.

This week's A+ Athlete is Laura Heers from Muenster High School. Laura does it all for the Lady Hornets. She plays basketball and softball, runs track and cross country, and she's even a cheerleader.

But basketball is her favorite, and it shows. Muesnter has been ranked in the top ten all four years under her direction and has even made a trip to the state semifinals.

When Laura’s not working on her jump shot, she's putting the full court press on her school work. Laura ranks third in her class. She's president of the National Honor Society. She's also a member of student council, the literary academic team, Keep Muenster Beautiful, and she's headed to Texas Tech in the fall.

Congratulations to Laura Heers for being named this week's A+ Athlete.

We'll introduce you to another A+ Athlete every Friday here on First News AM. School officials, coaches, teachers, and counselors are encouraged to send in your nominees.

I had the pleasure of teaching Laura when I was a teacher in Muenster. She is definitely deserving of any accolades that come her way. I sure do miss Laura, and I wish that I had more students like her. I am very proud of the mature, responsible, young lady that she has always been. Way to go, Laura!

I am an elementary teacher @ Muenster ISD. I watch KXII every evening and morning. When your station broadcasts the A athlete, I always thought Laura Heers would be a great candidate. I was thrilled to see her nominated. She truly is a student who thrives in every area she is involved in. I wish everyone could have the oppotunity to meet her. Thank you so much for taking the time to come to Cooke County to interview her.
