SAGINAW, TX -- It's a shame when an umpire acts like he is more important than the game. It's even moreso when it's during a high school softball game.
The S&S softball team fell victim to one of those umpires Saturday afternoon during Game 2 of their Regional Semi-final. The homeplate umpire ejected S&S pitcher Angela White and also her battery mate, catcher Nikki Jones for apparently complaining about his strike zone.
Head Coach Jason Inman seemed baffled by the ejections, but remained calm throughout the process. The same could not be said, however, for one of the S&S fans in attendence. The umpire also ejected that fan for shouting through the fence at the umpire.
The Lady Rams ended up losing Game 2, 1-0, forcing a decisive Game 3.
After the umpires rotated positions, things went much more smooth for Game 3. In what could be called, poetic justice, the 2 players ejected from Game 2, White and Jones, both drove in a run for S&S in the final game. Jones sent a sacrafice fly to left that scored Haley Colwell to make it 1-0. Then White sent a sinking liner to center scoring Kayli Croney giving S&S a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Rams would go on to win 2-1.
They will now take on Aubrey in the 2A Region II Championship next weekend.
