6-30-08 -- Earlier this month, Hugo High School Principal Tommy Cummings took over as the Interim Head Football Coach. This morning, they made it a permanent position.
After a long search, Superintendent Tony Daugherty named Cummings as the Head Football Coach of the Buffaloes. Cummings will step down as Principal, but take over Director of Operations for the Superintendent.
Cummings has coached football for six years, eleven years total counting his time coaching baseball and basketball. Most recently, he coached at St. Jo's where he was the defensive coordinator for five years.
At every school he's been a part of, Cummings has either been an assistant football coach or worked closely with the football team.
He has never been a head coach before, but Cummings feels confident in his experience working directly with the previous head coach. He also says he has a great knowledge of what the student-athletes at Hugo are capable of since he has worked with them as the Principal for the last two years.
Cummings was born and raised in Hugo. He was an All-District Quarterback for Tecumseh High School in Oklahoma and played baseball for East Central University.
The Buffaloes went 3-7 last year.
