Carthage shocks Celina in State Title Game

The Celina Bobcats quest to win their ninth state championship came up one game short. Carthage took home the title with a 49-37 win in Irving.

Carthage trailed at the half, but completely outplayed the Bobcats on their way the state championship, and the final high school football game to be played at Texas Stadium.

The Bobcats made what would be an improbable run through the playoffs for most teams. After 7 weeks, the Bobcats were just 4-3. They made quite a turnaround and were uncontested throughout the post-season until tonight.

The Bobcats were the defending state champions after beating China Spring in the state finals a year ago.

Carthage did not Shock Celina, instead Carthage "beat up" the Bobcats. Anyone who witnessed this game could tell Carthage was bigger, stronger, and faster. Carthage had to travel 4 hours to play this game so Celina had a huge advantage. Celina lost to three east Texas schools this year including Dangerfield, Whitehouse, and Carthage.
