Denison's run ends in Denton

The Denison Yellow Jackets fell to Aledo in the state semifinals, 40-28 at Collins Stadium in Denton.

The Jackets scored three touchdowns in the first half to go into the locker room tied at 21 at halftime, but Aledo was very opportunistic in the second half to win the game.

D.J. Jones scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns to give Denison an early 14-7 lead. Aaron Morrison returned an interception for a touchdown to give the Jackets a two touchdown advantage. But Aledo was able to close the gap and tie the game before the quarter ended. They used that momentum to put the game away in the second half.

Denison's season ends in the state semifinals with a 13-2 overall record. The Jackets have won 25 games over the past two seasons.

Aledo will play Brenham for the state championship next week.

Louann: Aledo is a very small town. Aledo High School district is a very small 4A school. I believe the enrollment in the high school is about 900. That may account some for the reason Aledo fans did not fill up their side of the stadium, if indeed, they didn't. Please remember, Aledo fans are good sports and none that I know, have said one bad thing about Denison or the Yellow Jackets. Remember the old saying..."Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see".

Gomer: Why are you messing with these folks. You know you are not from Aledo. I doubt you know where Aledo is and you sure have never been there. Folks don't give this person the time of day. No one in Aledo has any ill feelings toward anyone in Denison. Gomer is, no doubt, a Grayson County product with an axe to grind. Probably got a traffic ticket in Denison and is out to retaliate because of that. No one in Aledo, and I know lots of folks from there, has anything detrimental to say about Denison. It was a good hard fought ball game. Denison played well. It was just Aledo's year as evidenced by the fact they beat Brenham in the finals. Pay no attention to Gomer. That will take all the fun out of it for him. Let him just slink back under that rock he came out from under.

Louann you filled your stands with idiots who drove all that way to see their future leaders get crushed. What you don't know is that everyone in Aledo knew that your team would be a gimme so most fans did the green thing and stayed home for that game (which was initiated and promoted by the Aledo players). I guess that the record pretty much speaks for itself though.

I'll have you know, you moron in Aledo, we don't have a "trashy little town!" We do take pride in our town and, unless you were blind, did you see how we supported our football team by "filling up" our side of the stadium? I don't believe you can say the same!

In reading his comments one might think Gomer actually had something to do with the Aledo victory. However, word is that he is prohibited by law to come within 1000 feet of any school campus.

You are correct. And when I read his comment I got heated and didn't stop to think about it. No where in it does it say that he is from Sherman. I should have taken the time to actually comprehend what I was saying. But to answer your question... no I would not have done the same. But I wasn't at the Denison games either because I no longer live in that area. I just keep up with whats going on. Thanks for supporting the Jackets though... I'm sure it helped the excitement of the game.

To @Gomer....who says that Gomer is from Sherman? You have no clue about that and all of the Sherman fans who went to SUPPORT the Denison Yellowjackets should take offense to your attack. I personally am one of them that spent money on gas and a ticket to watch Denison play...in fact...i already had room reservations in Austin to watch them play for the state title. You need to put your attitude back in your holster because you have no clue where that guy was from. There were TONS of Sherman people there SUPPORTING you guys. Would you have done the same?

Where the hell were the "sherman bearcats" when the denison season ended? EXACTLY! At home being bitter or paying money for gas and a ticket to watch the Denison game. Get a life! Who other than you has waste time and money being a bitter sore loser!

Good run for the jackets....You should be proud of yourselves and hold your head high. You guys have a lot of talent and it showed this season. Good luck next year.

Hank, the game site and the start time of the game conspired against us on Saturday. If Pilot Point had played within a 100-mile radius of KXII and the game had started before 2:30 p.m., I would have been able to drive down, get a few highlights, and be back to Sherman in time for the 6 o-clock news. But with the game being in San Marcos and starting at 3:30, there was simply no way we could get to the game, so we had to depend on whatever we could get from those who did go. We ended up with some very poor quality Internet video highlights. I did the highlights at 6 and 10 on Saturday but the video was really not up to our standards so we decided not to post it to the web. We definitely care about Pilot Point and we are disappointed that we couldn't cover the state championship better. Congratulations to the Bearcats.
