SHERMAN - Cameron Clark scored 42 points, including game-tying baskets at the end of regulation and the first overtime, but fouled out in double overtime as Sherman lost to San Antonio Wagner, 94-91, in the championship game of the Sherman Holiday Invitational.
Wagner led 43-33 at halftime and held a 14-point lead in the third quarter, but the Bearcats fought back to tie the game on Clark's jumper late in the fourth quarter. On Sherman's next possession, Clark scored on a driving layup to give the Bearcats the lead, then found Stewart Counts for a three-pointer that gave Sherman a 5-point lead with less than two minutes to play. The Thunderbirds responded, however, and took a 3-point lead with 10 seconds to play. Clark answered with a pullup three with 4 seconds left to tie the game at 77 and send it into overtime.
In the first overtime, Clark's driving layup with two seconds left tied the score at 85 and gave Clark 40 points on the night. In double overtime, Clark scored another clutch basket but then fouled out with 15 seconds left and Sherman trailing by a point. After two Wagner free throws, the Bearcats designed a play for Stewart Counts, but tournament MVP Jordan Clarkson stole the ball from Counts to seal the victory for the Thunderbirds.
