Head football coach Larry McBroom is leaving the Ardmore Tigers to become an assistant coach at South Grand Prairie High School.
McBroom was the head coach in Ardmore for three seaons and never won a playoff game after capturing seven state championships at rival Ada. He leaves the Tigers with a record of 17-16, and went 0-2 in the postseason.
McBroom departs for South Grand Prairie where he will serve as an assistant for his former assistant, Brent Whitson. This is not his first coaching job in Texas, he has also served as the head coach at Mount Pleasant.
McBroom raised several eyebrows when he took the Ardmore job three years ago. The Tigers had been his biggest rival from his days as the head coach at Ada. Combined with his father and brother, the McBroom family had coached the Ada Cougars for 43 years winning 14 of the school's 19 state championships. Larry has won 7, his father Criag claimed 6, and his brother Gary won 1.
