Kaylee Garner pitched a two-hit complete
game as Danbury beat Callisburg 10-1 in a state Class 2A high
school softball semifinal.
Garner (26-3) struck out 12 Callisburg (28-7-1) hitters and
walked one Thursday in Austin.
Danbury (38-3) won its 19th straight and had six seniors
participate in a post-game graduation ceremony at home plate.
First baseman Macy Pettier had two hits, but she drew special
notice for another reason: she was honored as the Danbury High
School valedictorian. She called Thursday "the best day of my
life, to be graduating on the field where we just won a state
playoff and being valedictorian."
Danbury will play Nacogdoches Central Heights in the 11 a.m.
Saturday Class 2A state softball final.
