Kynzie Newman scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading Celina to a 45-32 win over Lorena on Thursday in the Class 3A state semifinals.
Celina led 33-26 to start the fourth quarter and opened the period with a 7-2 run keyed by Newman's 3-point play. Sarah Cantu and Presley Stastny each scored 10 points for Celina (34-3).
Erin Simms scored 12 points for Lorena (29-9), which tried to catch up from the 3-point line but was just 2 of 10 shooting from long range.
Celina grabbed the lead for good on Newman's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. Lorena got within 29-26 in the third before Celina closed the quarter with a four straight points on free throws by Cantu and a spinning layup by Stastny.
