The Austin College volleyball team has been named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a recipient of the organization’s Team Academic Award for the 2012 season. This is the second straight year the ‘Roos have earned this honor.
The AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated during the 1992-1993 academic year and recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average throughout the year. Austin College is one of only two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools to have earned this honor in 2012, along with Trinity.
There were a record 622 programs that earned this award for the past year, with 93 of those coming from the NCAA Division III level. The previous record was 536 teams in total, which was set last year. This past season the ‘Roos had 12 student-athletes named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.
