Three and eight was the final tally for the Anna coyotes last season, and while they made the playoffs, they feel their record may have been a bit misleading.
"The thing was we could never put two halves together, and the times we put two halves together, we were pretty successful, pretty good. And that's the thing we're focusing on is playing both halves, being more consistent, doing the little things right," said coach Jason Heath.
But that's ancient history now. The Coyotes will have to have to get some young players to step up, as they return only 5 starters on offense and three on defense.
"We have lot of young folks, its just a lot of youth, more speed and power. Not much experience, but it's all right,we've got a lot of talent," said running back Isaac Armijo.
Armijo is not one of those young kids however, the junior rushed for 1500 yards last season, with 25 scores. The rushing game will be big for Anna once again.
"We're going to have a lot of really going running. We've got Isaac, Ty Slaughter is going to be pretty good blocking out there, and I think we've got a lot size in our offensive line even though we don't have too many starters. I think it's going to be a lot of good rushing again," said left guard James Kemp.
Anna's got some new district opponents this season...including Celina, who picked by many to contend for a state title. But that doesn't change expectations.
"We want to make the playoffs, we want to be competitive in the district, we want to win a playoff game," said Kemp.
