It's was another successful season for the Bonham Purple Warriors. Head coach Cody Bounds led the program to their second straight playoff berth after finishing the season 5-and-7, and 2-2 in the district.
"Were trying to change the attitude around here in Bonham, get them back the way they were in the 80s, somewhat in the 90s," said head coach Cody Bounds. "Get them back to that hard working, blue collar mentality, if you will, and I think we did that last year."
Dru Smith, along with several other seniors were key pieces in leading the Warriors to the Area Finals. But new leaders will need to emerge as Bounds has just ten starters returning.
"Their going to have to learn in the line of fire so to speak, that's part of it and they welcome that," said coach Bounds. "The kids our excited about that and they realize, they've got some big shoes to fill but their ready for that challenge."
"You can't truly replace them, because you can't know what they would do in game situation," said senior Kenton Manis. "We can only play with our abilities we have with this team now. So, were going to see how this season turns out and what we can do ourselves."
Bonham may have growing pains but Bounds expects nothing less than playoffs. Despite the news teams in the district like Celina, the Warriors are on board with their coach.
"I know we have a tough district, but we'll do it," said senior Jared Prock. "I think we'll pull it out. It's going to be tough, I don't know if it will be as tough as last year, but it's going to be tough, especially with Celina."
"Mediocrity is not an option," said coach Bounds. "We want to work the kids hard, we also realize we are a young ball club and we may have some growing pains but in the end of the day, it's playoffs or bust."
