It was an up and down year for the Callisburg Wildcats as they went 6-and-4 overall, but just 2-and-4 in district. Head coach Ritchie Pinckard missed out on the postseason for the first time since the 20-12 Area Final run, but a return visit could be happening as 14 starters are back.
"We return a lot of kids, and I think were going to be a little more athletic than we've been, and their fun to be around," said head coach Ritchie Pinckard. "One of things that I like them about the most is the fact that I think they do have goals and their goals mean something to them and that makes it extra special when you have a small group that wants to accomplish something big."
One starter that didn't see a lot of playing time was Morgan Rigsby. The success of the Wildcats will largely fall on his shoulders as he leads the offense.
"We have Morgan Rigsby and he's coming up, and he was out last year with an ACL injury," said senior running back Jake Parker. "But he's a very good quarterback, he's not very tall but very accurate and fast, and I m excited to see what kind of things he does."
"Our quarterback Reece Childress, he was a good quarterback, but we also had another good quarterback that could have been essential to us last year despite his ACL tear," said senior lineman Zach LaRue. "Bringing him back I think he'll do a lot of good things for us."
The return of the postseason won't come easy for coach Pinckard. Every team in district 5-3A made the postseason last year, including Pottsboro and Whitesboro, who both won district titles.
"They were all playoff teams last year, yeah, we got our hands full, but I think they will have their hands full with us," said Pinckard. "Our kids are going to play them hard, were not going to be concerned about the size or what they've done in the past, I mean for us we just have to go play."
"To win as many games as possible, I mean as long as we believe, as long as we fight hard," said LaRue. "I think we can be a playoff team and surprise some people in the playoffs."
