The Savoy Cardinals went 8-4 last year, winning back to back district championships and they aim to do it again.
"I think the expectation is to keep winning," said head coach Clay Wilson. "We've done it the past two years and I don't think they're gonna accept anything less."
With the loss of a few key players this upcoming season the underclassmen know they have some big shoes to fill.
"I just think that with the losses we're gonna have to bounce back and work even harder as a team to get as far as we did last year," said junior linebacker Nathanael Baca.
"We got some young kids returning and they were behind some older seniors and just getting that experience and being in the playoffs," said junior tailback Alex Caldwell. "It's good thing for them to see and hopefully they can carry the tradition on what those seniors started."
After making a run to the State 1A quarterfinals last year the Cardinals say teamwork and experience will help them get back into postseason play.
"Last year we put a lot of work into it and the coaches put a lot of work into helping us get better and I think they're gonna do the same this year," said Baca. "I think we'll get pretty far in the playoffs again."
