Ace right-hander Andrew Doyle has become
the second pitcher in Oklahoma's starting rotation to get selected
in baseball's amateur draft.
Doyle was taken by the Texas Rangers with the 124th overall pick
early in the fourth round of the draft Wednesday. He joins
right-hander Garrett Richards, who went at No. 42 to the Los
Angeles Angels on the first day of the draft Tuesday.
After becoming the Sooners' regular Friday night starter, Doyle
went 8-4 with a 4.21 ERA last season. He struck out 65 in a
team-high 92 innings pitched.
Three other college players from the state were selected in the
fifth round: Oklahoma State right-hander Tyler Blandford went at
No. 143, Oklahoma City University lefty Ashur Tolliver at No. 146
and Sooners catcher J.T. Wise at No. 157.
