The Texas Rangers avoided arbitration with two of its right-handed pitchers by reaching one-year deals with them.
Starter Brandon McCarthy agreed today to a one-year, $1.3
million contract, avoiding arbitration for the injury-plagued
The Rangers also avoided arbitration with right-hander Dustin
Nippert with a one-year, $665,000 deal.
McCarthy was 7-4 with a 4.62 ERA last season, when he was
limited to 17 starts (97 1-3 innings) because of a stress fracture
in his right throwing shoulder. He was on the disabled list for
almost three months.
Nippert was 5-3 with a 3.88 ERA over 69 2-3 innings in 20
appearances (10 starts) last season and is a potential rotation
candidate. He didn't join the team until early July after beginning
the season on the disabled list because of right shoulder soreness.
