Texas Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers says he didn't initially say two teammates were with him when he was involved in a physical altercation in Cleveland because he didn't think it was a big deal and didn't want to involve them.
The team said Monday it has a "full understanding" of what happened early Friday morning after speaking with closer Joe Nathan and catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who were with Scheppers.
The Rangers thanked Cleveland police and said they consider the incident closed.
Scheppers said he was "sucker-punched by several young males" while out to dinner a few blocks from the team hotel after getting to Cleveland on Thursday night.
Scheppers, who also thanked Cleveland police, said Monday that Nathan and Pierzynski "mostly just picked me up off the floor."
