Mark Van Paasschen joined the First Sports team in August of 2005 as the Weekend Sports Anchor. Mark is a native Houstonian, and is excited to be telling the sports stories of Texoma. Mark's broadcasting career began at The University of Texas in Austin where he was the Sports Director at the student television station, KVR-TV. He graduated in the summer of 2003 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. While at KVR, Mark was the play-by-play voice for the student-produced broadcasts of UT Men's Basketball games, as well as the anchor of a live, weekly, award-winning UT Sports show, The College Pressbox. Mark received the CBI award for Best Sportscast of 2003 while working for KVR. After graduation Mark promptly got his first television job, Sports Reporter/Photographer for KRHD-TV in College Station, TX. While there, he was on the field for Coach Dennis Franchione's first game as the Aggies' head coach, and he got to cover their trip to the 2005 Cotton Bowl. "My favorite part of this job is the stories, especially the high school stories," Mark said. "High school athletes in this region have so much pressure put on them by their individual communities, it's always amazing to me how well they handle it." In his spare time, Mark enjoys working out, running, playing golf, spending time at the lake, and writing about himself in 3rd person. If you see him out and about say hello, just don't hold the fact that he's a Longhorn against him.
