Name: Steve LaNore
Title: Chief Meteorologist
Email Address: steve.lanore@kxii.com

Steve LaNore is KXII’s Chief Meteorologist. Weather has always been Steve’s hobby, and one of his passions. When he was three years old, it meant running out into the rain to watch the lightning (not a good idea…his mom didn’t like it either!). When he was 10, it meant tracking hurricanes on 3x5 index cards (way before the Internet came along). Now, it’s shown by his enthusiasm and dedication within a very challenging profession.

Steve feels blessed to forecast and present the weather for a living and enjoy it in the process. However, it wasn’t an accident; there’s been plenty of hard work and a few hard knocks along the way. Steve first stepped in front of the camera in 1984. Part-time jobs while a student at Texas A&M then led to his first full-time position as Chief Meteorologist in Victoria, Texas in 1986. From there, he took on the Chief Meteorologist role in Fort Smith, Arkansas where we covered the stormy skies of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas for three years.

He was honored by the Associated Press in 1989 with the “Best Weathercast” award for the state of Arkansas. Texas next tugged him southward to San Antonio, where he spent nine years. During this time he once again received recognition, this time from the Texas Associated Press, for weathercasting excellence. He assumed the role of Chief Meteorologist at KDAF in Dallas in 1998. Steve’s most recent work before coming to KXII was a six-year stint at the CBS affiliate in Austin, Texas. He joined the First News team in 2006.

Steve’s philosophy on weather coverage is a simple one: “My first and foremost duty is to provide quick and accurate information to viewers during severe local storms. This may help save lives and assist people in making split-second decisions. Secondly, everybody wants a reliable forecast. No one can promise complete accuracy, and I’m going to miss a few forecasts…but I will strive to provide you with a very well thought out and researched weather product each and every night on Channel 12. Finally, when the weather is slow, I like to have a little fun. Perhaps we’ll meet on the street, at the store, in a school classroom or out at the lake. Please stop and say hello. And, if I look different than what you see on TV…please remember…I do not wear the makeup or the suit when I’m not working!”

Steve is married to Gera LaNore, and has a teenage stepson named Geraed (pronounced as "Jared"), who graduated from Pottsboro High School in June 2009. He and Gera enjoy traveling as time permits. Geraed is joining the United States Army in the fall of this year.
