DURANT, Okla. -- The City of Durant is still under an emergency order to conserve water officials say that order is expected to last until 5 p.m. Friday, so residents should continue to use water sparingly.
City officials first became aware they might have a problem on their hands yesterday when they took the steps to notify everyone individually.
A reverse 911 system allows emergency management crews to call residents instead of residents having to call 911.
Durant police chief Gary Rudick says the system was made possible thanks to $15,000-Homeland Security grant and they're glad to have it, especially on Thursday.
Emergency management officials say because of a delay in pipeline construction.
They were forced to tell residents they had to conserve water by only using it for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene.
Crews did finish construction on the line on Thursday evening, but it will take awhile for everything to get back to normal.
However, officials say the water available is safe.
Emergency officials say the water should be up to full strength by 5 p.m. Friday, and they have to conserve until the ban is lifted.
