MARIETTA, Okla. -- Suspended Marietta Police Chief William Baker will continue to be on paid leave until the end of this month. City officials said they need more time to fully complete their investigation.

Officials suspended Baker last month because of allegations that he may have violated police and city codes.

City attorney Richard Cochran and Marietta mayor Scott Birdsall completed a two-week investigation into the allegations.

After speaking with Mayor Birdsall, he said the decision to extend baker’s suspension happened during a closed door city council meeting Tuesday night when those findings were presented to the city council.

Baker has been with the police department since 2003. He’s been chief for more than a year.

I think I have found the right chief of police for the great bennifet for marietta, she is linda johnson, retired from police dept after 20 yrs, with a lot of potential, betterment for all citizens .has a great resume ,which was summited for your conisideration.,property owner in the shady dale area, has some family here, and is ready to settel here and make your city avery nice safe to live and raise children, as a mother, grandmother ,daughter, wife sister, all rolled into one ,but most of all a great leader and wonderful person and worker she retired from a big crime area in california so knwos the ropes really well. Please keep her in mind if you wish to have good feed back from the citizens, drugs off the streets, friendly personality, all around sound mind knows her job very well and works to the best of her ability for all concerned thank you in advance for giving her the chance to show you her potential and great work skills, she knows how to get revenue for the city. its amazing that you people defend someone who you only want to see if you are in need of assistance.... if you truly knew this man you would understand that everything that he does is just to better himself.... if it does not benefit him it wont happen.. he does not care about his department or the city. Now there is a new mayor over the city and the old mayors "dictatorship" is over. The city of marietta deserved a fresh start. Mayor Birdsall has done a great job of rebuilding what the old has destroyed. I commend Birdsall and the city council on the investigation and believe it is time for "restructuring" begining with the marietta police chief...

I am proud to say that I went through Law Enforcement Reserve School with Chief Baker a few years ago. You will never find a more thoughtful or caring man than him. If you as a citizen needs help or as another law enforcement officer needs back up, Chief Baker would be the first one there to help. To Chief Baker, hold your head high and the truth will come out and you can resume your duties. I will keep you in my prayers. From a fellow law enforcement officer

To the people of Marietta, there is nothing funny about an officer that is putting his life on the line everyday for us.the Mayor is doing a fine job in investagating a problem. Would you have a gripe if it was over looked? There are more than one Dept. that shares the radio channels in Love Co. Do you know the differance? The State of Okla. gave this officers their Badges.I hope one day you do not need one of this guys with a badge to safe you or your families lives or property.Would it be funny to you then? I am very proud of the Marietta Police Dept. and the Sheriffs office and their hard work. They take on jobs that some people would not or could not. Walking up to a crime scene not knowing what you are walking into in the dark is not fun.All officers, no matter what Badge they wear should get a pat on the back.

I agree, and why is he being paid with leave. I say he should of been off the pay roll along time ago. Marietta police department is a big oh joke. LMAO yes listening to the scanner on Friday and Saturday night is better than going to the movies or out to eat.

I guess ANYBODY can become a police chief these days. This is almost as ridiculous as the new police chief in Colbert. I guess no one thought it important to run a background check on Colbert's new chief. Check the grayson county web site for his rap sheet. And that's only in Grayson county!
