Dangers of tobacco use

ARDMORE, Okla. -- He's nationally known for his opposition to tobacco use. On Friday, he stopped in Ardmore to share his experience with local kids.

You have seen him on ESPN, MTV, or even Good Morning America. Gruen Von Behrens was in town to speak to Ardmore students about the dangers of tobacco use.

Von Behrens started using spit tobacco when he was 13. Four years later, he was diagnosed with one of the deadliest forms of oral cancer and had most of his tongue and jaw removed.

"Four out of five people who get diagnosed with this type of cancer will pass away, so I’m very fortunate to be here today. It’s a very dangerous form of cancer you can get."

Von Behrens visit was sponsored by the Carter County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition. He speaks to schools nationwide and has spoken to every school in Virginia.
