POTTSBORO, Tex. -- A Pottsboro dentist has pled guilty to meth charges. A Grayson County judge sentenced Dr. Robert Hawkins to eight years probation and a $1,200 fine after he pled guilty to possession of methamphetamine.
In April, sheriff's deputies arrested Hawkins at his home near Lake Texoma and found $1,000 worth of meth and drug paraphernalia.
Authorities say Dr. Hawkins’s profession was a factor in the judge's decision.
"He was in a position of trust, he assumedly puts people under sedation, he works in their mouth while he's under the influence, and that was one of the reasons he got as long a term as he did and that he didn't get any deferred adjudication," said Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown.
The court plans on forwarding the case results to the state dental board’s office and officials there will decide whether to revoke his license.
