ARDMORE, Okla. -- Some southern Oklahoma athletes spent their Wednesday at an Ardmore bowling alley competing for the Special Olympics.
Over 100 local athletes filled the Imperial Lanes Bowling Alley trying to win ribbons and the chance to attend the State Special Olympics in January.
The Ardmore meet has been held for over 10 years at the bowling alley and is one of two qualifying events for the southern Oklahoma region.
Coaches say this is one of the best things for these athletes the ability to compete and learn on the way to the state games.
"They are so happy, and it’s such a wonderful thing for them, and they only get this opportunity through the Special Olympics," said Ardmore Middle School special education teacher Donna Staton.
The World Special Olympics are being held this week in Singapore. Four athletes from Oklahoma are participants.
