SHERMAN, Tex. -- A southeast Texas man accused of sex crimes was taken into custody in Sherman. Richard Brian Lummus, 42, was taken into custody on Wednesday by Sherman PD.

Lummus has outstanding warrants in Jasper County, which is near Beaumont. He is accused of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child. Officers tell us because of the nature of crimes, officers felt they really need to go look for this guy.

"With that kind of warrant, we put extra effort into located the van, knocked on the door, confirmed who he was, and made the arrest," said Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department.

Officers found Lummus was arrested at a home on Brinkley, which is just two blocks away from a pre-school. Lummus is still in the Grayson County Jail this evening, awaiting extradition to Jasper.

YES 20 somethings need to be hounded for having sex with children. Having sex with a CHILD is not a "mistake". It's this attitude than makes pedophiles slip the noose too many times.

The story said the police "put extra effort into locating the van." Is this the same van in the attempting kidnapping near Crutchfield last week?

Its people who comitt this type of crime that make it hard for the ONES on the list who did not commit a violent crime against a child (they had underage girlfriend) to LIVE THEIR LIVES & FEEL SAFE. There needs to be a different system for the people on these list who are trying to live a decent life and have families and honorable furtures. WE MUST REMEMBER THAT NOT ALL PEOPLE ON THE OFFENDER LIST SHOULD BE CONDEMED FOR LIFE. But yes, the ones who repeat should be CONDEMED AND held accountable but I feel the ones who made mistakes when they were in their 20's with 16-18 years old should not have their families SUFFER forever
