Weatherization for cooler temperatures

DENISON, Tex. -- It's the perfect time to start thinking about cooler weather, even though it's still warm outside now. Once again, TXU electric provider, and Oncor, TXU’s delivery subsidiary, are offering a free weatherization program.

Oncor Electric Delivery is a subsidiary of the TXU Corporation and is sponsoring the project across Texas.

As part of the program, Oncor, along with participating contractors from the area, comes out to a pre-approved home and weatherize it, meaning they install insulation, weather strip the home, and make other energy efficient adjustments to it in order to help the customer and company conserve energy.

Officials with Oncor say any family is eligible for the program. They just have to register through the company in order to be approved.

On Thursday, crews worked on the Bullock's home just northwest of Denison.

Both the homeowners and workers were excited about the day’s work.

"We appreciate these people that are doing this for us, and it won’t cost us anything ever, and every person needs to get in on this that qualifies," said homeowners Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Bullock.

Oncor senior program manager Benjamin Pena says, "What we want to do with these programs is be able to reduce kilowatt hours and kilowatt savings off of our overall grid, and that’s how our public can take it and put in these programs."

Oncor will also host an energy efficient event next Saturday, October 13 at the Lowe’s Home Improvement in Sherman where company officials will hand out weatherization packets and advice on how to make your home more cost effective.

Oncor can be reached at 866-728-3674

You'll be able to pick up your free weatherization kit and learn more about how to make your home more energy efficient.

Todd Thompson will be live in our studio the morning before to let you know more.

How ironic. We go to such lengths to seal up our homes tight as a drum, then we wonder why we suffer from mold and other allergins. Open some windows, get some fresh air.......BREATHE, people.....geez.
