BONHAM, Tex. -- The City of Bonham is destroying condemned homes in an effort to beautify the city. City officials say they are in the process of knocking down close to thirty buildings across the city that have been labeled a danger to the neighborhood.
The city has hired an outside contractor to do the work, and so far about 15 of the homes have come down. Officials say they plan on reselling the property in order to build new homes or businesses that will beautify the city.
"Anything that can clean up the city its more like an urban renewal project and when you have a lot of properties that are dangerous and are a health and safety hazard you have vacant house that are just sitting around and you have kids running in there that can fall on them," said Bonham city planner Mike Walthal.
The city hopes to complete the demolition within the next couple of weeks.
