SHERMAN, Tex. --A Sherman mother is behind bars for endangering her kids. Police say a tip led them to an apartment where they found three young children all home alone. Police say it happened around 7:30 Wednesday night in the 4800 block of Highgrove Drive.

When the officers arrived at the apartment they say a three-year-old girl answered the door and said she was home alone. The officers went inside and found two doors tied shut with string. Inside they found a two-year-old sleeping in one room and an 11-month-old sleeping in another.

When 23-year-old Lena Harper returned home, she was arrested for child endangerment, a felony. Harper was gone for about two hours, according to witnesses. She told officers she was going to pick up a car.

Harper was booked into the Grayson County Jail, where she remained as of Thursday night. The children's father took custody of the kids Wednesday night.

Parentofeight- just because you work a day job doesn't mean everyone does. There are quite a few folks who work evening or night shifts- I work a night shift myself. And yes, my wife is at home with the kids while I'm out working. Since you're not there to judge, kindly refrain from making any opinion about off-shift workers.

Tracy-I think this is absolutely horrible what this mother did. She definately nees to be punished. She doesn't deserve to be a mother. What I want to say to you is not all single mothers are like this. I am a single mother of a 10 yr old. Obviously I know what birth control is because that is the only child I have. It has nothing to do with being single but with being a bad mom. I know many "married" women that are just as bad.

Obviously she's another single mother who doesn't know what birth control is all about. CPS is going to do anything except take the children away until she promises to be good, then they'll give them back and they'll grow up to be losers just like the mother.

all of you are so right she will get off or spend maybe 2 mo in jail and have to take parenting classes and be on probabtion. If that little girl opened the door up to the cop just imagine what would or could have happend if a sexual predator would have knocked on the door she opened the door and they could have all been taken or abused or killed IF YOUR WOMEN ENOUGH TO HAVE SEX AND HAVE KIDS THEN YOUR ARE WOMEN ENOUGH TO TAKE CARE OF THEM AND THIS LADY DESERVES HARSH HARSH PUNISHMENT.

What if the car she went to go get broke down, or she got in a wreck, and all three of those babies were left there alone to starve to death and die.

That mother needs to have a cps case brought IMEDIATELY and never have those kids back.... I don't care what her reason was... you DO NOT leave "BABIES" at home alone for any amount of time.... makes me sick to think how many ungodly things could have happened in the time she was gone. Bad move bad move all the way around.

This is absolutely uncalled for. I raised three children and ALWAYS had my kids with me wherever I went. Throw the book at her because there is NO reason to leave children at home like that. What is wrong with people these days?

No one should ever leave a child home alone. This is just stupid and the woman got exactly what she deserved. I hope that the father is a better parent and has enough parenting skills to know better.
