FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. - Federal money is being used to build flood control dams in hopes of keeping damaging flood waters from striking again.

A $1.6 million dollar dam is being built just south of Savoy in order to block flood waters from reaching the city.

Officials say there are already 11 in the area, and more are planned.

This particular project has been in the works since 1973, and officials say a lack of funding has prevented them from getting it done.

Earlier this year, Congressman Ralph Hall secured that funding.

Officials say the project should be completed within the next six months.
