LOVE COUNTY, Okla. -- More than a year after a gruesome murder at a Thackerville rest-stop, the man accused will be sentenced in court Thursday.

Tim Byford plead guilty on September 10th of this year to killing Rufus Lowery at at the rest stop along Interstate 35.

Authorities said Lowery was shot to death.

Shortly after the murder, Byford and another man, Sean Leggett, fled to North Carolina.

The men were caught by U.S. Marshals.

The death penalty is possible in the case but it’s most likely Byford will be given life in prison.

Also in court on Thursday, the co-defendant, Sean Leggett, is expected to enter a guilty plea for the murder.

I went to High School with both Tim Byford and Sean Legget. It's so sad to know that your neighbor, friends, classmates arent what they seem to be. I can never look at my senior yearbook without feeling disgusted.

Rufus was a great man and a personal friend of mine and my family. I know that Rufus loved all his children dearly. His world revolved around his family. He always wanted to help everyone out he could. He is missed so much till this day and will be forever. Rufus would have wanted the death penalty. I wish I would have known as well of the sentencing. I and a ton of his business colleagues would have shown up to give them two punks a piece of our minds. I wish the best for his children from the oldest down to little Rufus who was just a toddler when he was shot. I pray that he didn’t suffer long. Weird thing though, Rufus knew this is how he was going to die someday. I wish I could of done more to convinced him to go to Alabama instead that day he left. God knows we tried. Then he’d be home for the holidays today with his family.

It would be pointless to tell Tim Byford how he has hurt your family. He has no conscience and has never had any concern for anyone other than himself. Both of them have long histories of trouble from stealing cars to assault. Unfortunately, their families always made excuses for them and did all they could to get them of the hook. Well, this time their families can't save them. I hope they rot in prison for the rest of their lives. I am sorry for what the Lowery family has had to endure. I wouldn't be suprised if Sean's family was still making excuses for him.

to say that they deserve the death penalty is so harsh. God would not want you to think that way about one of his children. Are you so selfish not think that he is in a better place now and you will see him again? Just leave those boys alone and let them live with their guilt. And give yourself some rest and let yourself know hes sleeping in a better place tonight than youare.

This is the first time I have known how to contact Mr. Lowery's family. I am so sorry for your loss. I knew both of these boys and hate what they did to your family. You should have been contacted about the sentencing. Tim and Sean should have had to look at your family members and see and hear the pain they have caused. I pray that one day you will have some peace. Again I am sorry for the loss and pain that these boys caused your family. PS I am not related to either one of them (Tim or Sean.)

This is the eldest of Rufus Lowery & right now I am very upset that I nor my sister of Rufus that lives in Florida was not inform of the trial or sentencing of Byford or Leggett. They are ready have taken our father away from us that we spoke to all the time. Now to hear that we were not inform of this information were we could actually speak to these two & let them know what they have done to his children & grandchildren. We had a lot we had to say & questions we needed answered. I guess we were cheated out of that also. But I do have this to says they took a good man from us & I want their family to feel what we feel, they should of not got the life they should of got the DEATH PENALTY!!!!!
