GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- TXDOT crews in Grayson County are in the process of widening FM 1417. Crews are moving utilities so the contractor can begin the project.

TXDOT engineers plan to widen the stretch of road between Highways 691 and 120, adding two 10 ft. shoulders and four lanes in some parts.

The design also allows crews to widen the entire section to four lanes as the area grows in the future.

"This farm to market road was an old county road that had been designed several decades ago, and now we're trying to bring this roadway up to the current standards," says Noel Paramanantham with the Texas Department of Transportation

Engineers expect the project to be finished in January 2009.

Observer- you haven't been "observing" too well. Dallas traffic is nothing like Sherman traffic. What we have here is a Sunday school picnic compared to what they deal with down in Dallas. As for road repair, would you rather wait for the roads to get really bad? No, then folks will complain about the bad roads. As it is, folks complain about road repair slowing them down. Boo hoo hoo......start out a little earlier, take alternate routes to avoid some of these areas if you can, and be grateful repairs and expansions are being done.

I truly wish they would finish 75 potholes & the MESS at Travis street and Lamberth road before they slow down the traffic on 1417 as well for MORE construction. Today I had to drive through the Dallas rush hour and am tired from the slow traffic. I'm all for "fixin" the roads, but it seems like we will have no where to go without some type of construction. I loved the days when I could ride my mini bike all the way to Pottsboro via 1417 and not worry what-so-ever about being "caught" or getting run over by anyone.
