CHOCTAW COUNTY, Okla. -- Federal authorities are now involved in an investigation of possible abuse at a local jail. Four inmates in the Choctaw County Jail claim they were beaten while in custody.

In addition to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the FBI is now looking in to allegations that the four inmates were abused by a Choctaw County sheriff's deputy.

Special agent Gary Johnson says his office is conducting a preliminary investigation.

Back in October, Choctaw County authorities said inmates became unruly, flooding their cell. Sheriff Lewis Collins says one deputy was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Collins says he called the OSBI when the original complaint of abuse was made.

KXII-TV spoke with the mother of one of the inmates who claims he was beaten. She says her son suffered broken ribs during the incident and has since been moved to another facility.

No word on when the FBI will wrap up their investigation or if the deputy involved is still suspended.

These inmates were beaten while laying face down repeatedly with axe handle for about a minute and a half. Others were threatened to have it done to them if they watched. The cell was flooded by one man and 4 people were beaten because of it.

I say KICK THEIR BUTT, they need it. And for all of you "flower child" people (including MOM) that have nothing but love for the INMATE that committed the CRIME. If you look at rap sheets, you will notice it takes a lot of crimes before they are placed in jail or prison. Flooding a jail is not a good thing and they should have kicked their A$$ in a big way. The STATE should file a lawsuit against the people flooding the jail. (What a concept) Kudo's to the people that have to deal with these "throwed offs" and the "throwed off's family". Just wait until they get out of will hear boo hoo wha wha the MAN is against me...I didn't do it! I didn't do it. I didn't do it...You'll get more time, more time, more time...I HOPE!

Hey Tracy, sounds like you've spent time in jail. If you don't do a crime you won't have to woory about being mistreated.

so was there just one jailer - and several inmates? Maybe the inmates shouldn't shouldn't have damamged the jail cell.

I still think it is bull that just one officer got suspended, shouldnt have all officers involved in the incident have some type of action taken against them too.

Sounds like more of the same.....I am so sick of hearing about inmates & their rights. I thought jail is supposed to be punishment? It seems as though inmates have more rights than law abiding citizens. If my toilet overflows I have to clean it up or live in it.
