It's the most wonderful time of the year! Can't you just hear the Holiday songs starting already? But along with all the holiday cheer, police are warning you of their holiday fear: someone taking your holiday joy away.
Sherman Police Sgt. Bruce Dawsey says, statistically, crime trends increase during the holidays. That's because criminals are targeting people at malls, stores, and parking lots. Especially with easy-to-spot targets (those people with visible items, purses, wallets, etc) in-hand or in plain view in the car, you could become the victim.
Take steps now to prevent anything like this from happening to you! Always carry your purse closely by your side. Rick Arnold with Premier Martial Arts in Sherman says to react to an attacker. Attackers don't expect a reaction, so it'll surprise them, and they may abort their plans. Also, Arnold says to leave a mark. Police will ask you what the attacker looked like. If you can mark them (fingernails, etc), then they'll be easier to nab.
Sgt. Dawsey also says to make sure the tree and presents aren't very visible by that front window. "It looks pretty," he said. But you don't want to advertise the presents you've worked so hard to gather. It could make you an easy target.
