SHERMAN, Tex. -- About 500 school kids in Sherman may be attending a different elementary next year. With the addition of three elementary schools, and the loss of Perrin Elementary, which will become an alternative learning campus, officials have decided to change attendance zoning.
"We've been watching different factors such as ethnicity, income level, trying to make sure it’s done fairly and in ethical way and not gerrymandered or anything like that," SISD superintendent of finance Bruce Barnett says.
Parents will have the opportunity to give input.
Maps will be posted at the elementary schools, and a meeting is set for Monday, November 19, to answer questions and take suggestions.
The new zoning will be implemented for the 2008-09 school year.
