ADA, Okla. -- Around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, several trustee inmates with Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office jail staff were in the process of bringing food supplies into the county jail when one inmate ran away from the work detail. Inmate Casey Rhynes, who was helping bring in the supplies, ran from the jail to the area of West 14th Street in Ada.

Deputies and other officers quickly converged on the area but were unsuccessful in locating Rhynes. Deputies twice came close to apprehending Rhynes, first in an open field northwest of Ada and later at a house in Latta. Both times officers had just missed Rhynes by only a few minutes.

Casey Michael Rhynes, age 26, from Ada, is a white male with blue eyes and blonde hair, 6' 3", and 190 pounds with numerous tattoos on both arms.

Casey Rhynes was being held on driving under the influence and drug charges along with old fines and court costs. Because Rhynes had been cooperating with area narcotics officers, he was not thought to be an escape risk. Because Rhynes was a fugitive from justice, he will most likely face additional felony escape charges. If anyone knowingly provided any help or assisted in hiding Rhynes from law enforcement they could also face criminal charges of harboring a fugitive.

Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Deputies, Ada Police, Lighthorse Police, and OHP Troopers spent most of Monday afternoon and evening conducting search operations for Rhynes.

Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to develop information that Rhynes was going to Oklahoma City. After interviewing several friends and family members of Rhynes, deputies were able to obtain a possible suspect address in Oklahoma City. Deputies then sent a teletype to Oklahoma City Police informing them of the address along with Rhynes's photograph and description. Shortly before midnight OKC PD officers located Casey Rhynes at an address on NW 25th Street and arrested him without incident.

Around 2:00 a.m. Undersheriff Joe Glover and Deputy Kenny Heck picked Rhynes up from the Oklahoma County Jail and transported him back to the Pontotoc County Jail, where he is held without bail pending his next court appearance.
