GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Texas agriculture producers have a chance to receive funding in an effort to conserve natural resources, but the program affects more than farmers. Mystic Matthews has more on why we all need to help people help the land.

Conserving our natural resources is something we must all be conscious about, and ag producers could have some answers.

“It’s opportunity for individuals in county to help preserve natural resources we have. It’s important for us to take care of what we have for individuals to use in the future," soil conservationist Donald Gibbons says.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) set up a program in the mid 1990's called the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.

“It’s a practice we should be doing anyway as far as beef operations goes. It makes more profit for us to do it and timelier manner with government help."

EQIP gives money to crop and livestock growers to better their land, which protects precious resources like water. The money can go toward anything that promotes conservation.

“Some practices eligible for crop share is excavating ponds, livestock water, pasture and hay land planting, live stock pipelines and also brush management."

Program managers say those practices can co a long way to protect the environment.

With the help of this program and Mother Nature, farmers and ranchers can continue their conservation work to help us and our environment.

Signing up is a continuous process, but the deadline for fall contracts is Friday.

“Anybody in the cattle business or anyone who has land should take advantage because it’s a good program and no losers involved."
