CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- The man accused of shooting and killing a man in Ardmore earlier this month made his initial court appearance on Friday. Darrell Madden appeared in front of a judge at the Carter County Courthouse just before noon.

Madden is facing first degree murder charges for the shooting death of Bradley Qualls at the Huntington Apartments in Ardmore.

Court clerk officials say madden was brought down from an Oklahoma City hospital, where he's being treated for a wound he sustained when shot by police as he tried to carjack someone after the Qualls’s shooting.

Madden's bond has been set at $5 million. His preliminary hearing is set for February 4.

Did that Sheriff take an Oath?

I think the public needs to know that Sheriff Harvey Burkhart tried to turn the prisoner away when he was taken to the county jail for booking. The Sheriff wouldn't even let the officers bring the prisoner into the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff went as far as locking all the doors to keep the officers out. The Sheriff said he didn't care if he was in contempt of court. Finally the Sheriff was ordered by the court to take the prisoner. It is bad news when our county sheriff will refuse to take a racist murder suspect in his jail.
