N. RICHLAND HILLS, TX -- It was a classic smashmouth high school football game Saturday afternoon for the Gunter Tigers, but they came up on the losing end of a 21-14 loss to Cisco.
Gunter spotted the Loboes a 15-0 advantage into the 2nd Quarter. Jake Arrington fielded the ensuing kickoff at the 14 yardline and went untouched 86 yards for the first Tiger touchdown to make it 15-7 Cisco.
But, the Loboes would march it down the field and with 2 seconds left in the 1st Half Josh Bridges scores from the 1 on the Quarterback sneak. The PAT was blocked and Gunter trailed 21-7 at the half.
But the Tigers came out like a different team in the 2nd half. Daniel Castorena scored from the 6 to trim the lead to 21-14.
The backbreaker for Gunter came when they had a 98 yard drive that bridged the 3rd and 4th Quarters and took 8:50 off the clock, but ended with a fumble at the goalline on 3rd Down after a 1st and Goal from inside the 1.
Cisco picked off a Jared Watson pass with just over a minute to go to seal the 21-14 victory. Gunter's season comes to an end with a 12-1 overall record.
