WHITESBORO, Tex. -- Whitesboro Independent School District officials say they have had a case of a staph infection at the high school but that they are taking care of the problem.

Whitesboro superintendent Dr. Ray Lea says the school became aware of a student with a strain of staphylococcus infection on Tuesday. They say the student developed the infection about two weeks ago. Officials say they received a call from the student's doctor saying he was fine to go back to school.

Crews will work to sterilize the building, and teachers are encouraging their students to wash their hands.

Parents need to make their children aware of how Staph Infections can be serious. Being in the Medical Field I see infections come into the office with people thinking they are spider bites. If it looks like a spider bite or bad zit , get to a Dr. for a culture and some anti-biotics. Take as many pre-cautions as you can.

i work in the medical field and sorry to tell you but staph is a fairly common occurance in high school locker rooms, no matter where you are or how clean you are! It is also really hard to get rid of on a personal level and in the facility itself, so you ALWAYS have to be cautious in that setting.

Schools should be cleaned regardless of whos sick or not, it should not take a case of Staph to say " Oh we need to clean" it should be done on a regular basis, school are just breeding grounds for germs.
