Construction on U.S. 75 to begin Wednesday

Traffic along U.S. Highway 75 may be reduced to one lane in places due to road construction next week. Texas Department of Transportation officials say concrete repair will take place beginning this Wednesday and will last until the end of February 2008.

All four lanes should be open for the holidays, but officials urge drivers to be cautious in the meantime.

"Construction is just another thing you got to watch out for, not only for the safety of drivers, but for the safety of the workers on the road too. They're just doing a job to get those repairs made to make it safer, and they need to be treated with respect and courtesy when you drive those zones," TXDOT area engineer Kevin Harris says.

TXDOT officials remind drivers to slow down when you approach a crew working since traffic fines double in active work zones.

Eddie- the US75 construction is being handled by TXDOT, NOT the city of Sherman. If you want to gripe about construction, the rebuilding of the Travis & Lamberth intersection by Crawling (oops, meant to say Rushing) Paving comes to mind.

It seems like Sherman is ALWAYS doing construction and the roads never get any better. The end result is not worth all the headaches of construction.

I have an idea- let's just let US 75 deteriorate to the point you folks will have something legitimate to complain about. Highway repariscome with increasing traffic on our roads- deal with it.

It would be nice to know what stretch of 75 is going to be affected. North of Sherman? South of Sherman to ??? Through Sherman? That would allow us to use alternate routes.

Let me guess, it's time for the annual "lets cut big sections of concrete and rebar out of HWY 75 and replace them." In my opinion, the stretch of bypass highway from the Red River through Sherman was never constructed properly and these yearly repair jobs by TXDOT only serve as a band-aid.

Just in time for the Holidays! It will be our luck if the construction is in the 75 & 82 intersection and the Town Center area. Don't you love it when they put up signs that one lane is closed and you see giant skid marks on the highway? We've been lucky not to have an 18 wheeler run over a family. It happened several times on Hwy 35 in Oklahoma...wiping out entire families just in time for the Holidays.
