The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is here, and with plenty to do, how do you keep your head in check? Ryan Loyd has the answers in this Safe Family report.

When you think about decorating the house for the holidays and all the other chores you have to do, stress might be piling up for the whole family, especially kids.

"What we see in children when they become more stressed, oftentimes what we may observe is an increase in behavior problems, so they may act out more," Robin Gurwitch, PhD., at the OU Child Study Center, says..

When the kids act out, it falls back on the parents, and the stress cycle repeats itself. So instead of setting off the ticker to a bomb that will eventually explode, take a few minutes to work on cutting short your to-do list.

"Look at it and set realistic goals. What are some small things that you absolutely want to accomplish today or next week, rather than getting overwhelmed by a great big list."

First of all, don't worry about getting it all done. Do your best to maintain a routine during a non-routine season.

Get the kids involved, too. Let them make Christmas cards or help bake cookies. It can be a special time for you and your family.
