ARDMORE, Okla. -- The only person linked to a Carter County woman's death is now free on bond. Authorities arrested Roy Gene Bassett two days after the body of Brandi Baird was discovered in Healdton.

Roy Gene Bassett, 25, posted bond on Monday at around 6 o’clock from the Carter County Jail. Bassett had a late initial hearing Monday. His bond was set at $50,000.

Authorities arrested Bassett last week for the illegal dumping of a body. So far investigators say that 26-year-old Brandi Baird died at Bassett’s residence in Healdton.

Even though investigators have linked Bassett to Baird’s death, no evidence has been found to charge Bassett with more than a felony charge of dumping Baird’s body.

District Attorney Craig Ladd says that’s the reason why his bond was set at $50,000.

"Mr. Bassett made his initial appearance in court yesterday (Monday). He was represented by council. Based on he has an attorney and other factors the judge considered, the bond was set at $50,000," Carter County District Attorney Craig Ladd said.

Ladd also said that full results from autopsy are not due for several weeks.

Bassett’s next court appearance is set for January 22.

I am Brandi' Mother. My daughter will get justice. I started to reply back to a few comments but ran out of room. I am not ready for an interview with KXII yet. I told them maybe later. However my feeling can be read in the Letter to the Editor in last Sunday's paper.

All of these comments I have read, and they may be true and something I have not thought of. I thank each and everyone of you for your comments.I have lived here for 8 years> I do not know how the legal system works here, but I am sure they will do all they can to bring whoever did this to justice. I will not give up until they do. I do not know who did this but I will not rest until I find out and I will not let the D.A. or police give up. This is my mission to find justice for the person responisible for this,so Brandi can rest in peace and so can we. She has no voice so I will scream if I need to.I am her voice. Loretta, Step MOM

HOW IS IT THAT THIS MAN DUMPED A HUMAN BODY AND BONDED OUT OF JAIL FOR 50,000 DOLLARS AND THE MAN IN MARSHALL COUNTY WHO ALLEDGED TO HAVE SHOT A DOG AND DUMPED THAT BODY WAS HELD ON NO BOND AND THEM WAS RELEASED ON A 20,0000 OR BOND. SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE NEEDS TO PULL THEIR HEADS OUT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WORTH MORE A HUMAN OR A DEAD DOG. GOD BLESS THIS GIRLS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. AND WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO HAVE AN UPDATE ON THE GIRL THAT WAS ATTACKED BY THE DOG.

Question: how the heck did this end up a race issue?...if he had been black he would have probably never even went to jail at all or else YELLED race card and got out free! May God Bless that girl's family and may the one or ones who did this rot in hell.

craig ladd is ignorant.. he always wants to win his cases and this one he acts like it isnt a big deal.. he must have been paid off. if that was his daughter that was beat to death and left in a field they wouldnt be out on bond.. i can promise you that. nobody will ever see him again since he bonded out.. there are plenty of innocent criminals locked up and the one that admits to dumping a dead body gets out with a slap on the wrist. i have to one of ladds trials and he always wants to critisize somebody.. if that man was black he would have not had a bond.. but he is white so he is allowed some freedom. one day they are going to get in trouble for stereo typing people.. get out ladd and be a mcdonald worker.. you want fries with that and a shake...
