There is a new resource available for those in a mental health crisis. It's a toll free hotline for Grayson, Fannin, and Cooke County residents.

Mental Health/Mental Retardation officials say they have had a hotline for years, but now the system is improved. There is now one phone number (1-877-277-2226) for all three counties for anyone to call.

A recent budget increase from the Texas Legislature allowed MHMR officials to make the upgrade.

"Anyone can experience a mental health crisis or emotional distress at anytime, and we want people to know that the toll free number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the call will be screened by a mental health professional," Jill Livingston at MHMR says.

MHMR professionals say the hotline is especially pertinent this time of year. Experts say sometimes people get depressed or overwhelmed during the holidays.

Again, that number is 1-877-277-2226.
