Wal-Mart gift card issues

In the after Christmas rush, some Wal-Mart customers are unable to redeem their gift cards. Some buyers say the cards they purchased do not work inside, or even at the store gas station.

Wal-Mart's corporate officials say the computer system a third party company uses is having trouble processing the cards. This is happening at Wal-Mart stores and other nationwide retailers.

In a statement, officials say...

“Earlier today, we were made aware that some of our stores had issues with processing gift cards. We immediately investigated and discovered that our third-party verifier's systems had an inadvertent processing error, causing Wal-Mart and other retailers to experience delays in gift card verifications. We are working with the supplier to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”

No word yet on when the issue will be resolved.

That does it folks. NO MORE WAL-MART FOR ME! This is the last straw. I would rather pay five times the price at my local small business that buy something at Wal-Mart. Wal_Mart is evil and bad. First my grandma trips over an improperly parked fork-life and falls face first into the pavement in the garden department and now this stupid gift card issue. I'm never going there again!!!!!! BOYCOTT WAL-MART!!!!!!!

Wal-Mart is not the only one having problems. My family and I just tried to redeem our gift cards at Hastings, only to be told that they had never been activated. I contacted my sister-in-law who gave us the cards. She still has her receipts and intends to return the cards for her money back. The young man at Hastings Customer Service barely deigned to look up at the cashier trying to help us and said that this was a rare problem and that he didn't understand how the cards couldn't be activated if my sister-in-law had a receipt for them. Basically, he implied that the cards were stolen. He put zero effort into trying to solve the problem and simply dismissed us. I have already contacted Hastings by phone and registered my complaint; however, viewers need to go "receipt hunting" because without the receipts the gift card givers may have just gotten the shaft.

Prior to Christmas, newspapers reported that those gift cards dont work half the time anyway and to be sure and keep your receipt. I cant believe anyone purchased them after being warned! Wal-Mart always has issues!

Actually, Jim, it's "segue"... a Segway is a specific brand/type of two-wheeled transportation device.

I bought 2 of those cards and gave them as gifts. Talked to both individuals and they were unable to use them either!! Called Wal-Mart and they advised it could be weeks before this is fixed! Very embarrasing to give a gift like that and them unable to use it! Same ole crappy service from them is right!

I love how a problem with gift cards made a segway in to a comment about the apocalypse. The KXII comment section is comedy gold!

Maybe the IT folks actually took a day off, so the computers did too.

Yep, that sounds like Wal-Mart (or Sprawl-Mart or Waldemart or whatever you want to call it)... giving their usual crappy service and blaming it on someone else. Probably a third-party verifier in some third-world country.
