MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- Officals from the Lake Texoma Association are asking Oklahoma lawmakers for funding to restore recreational facilities at Texoma State Park.

The Lake Texoma Association board of directors recently passed a resolution asking state lawmakers for money to restore all of the parks campground facilities to where they were six years ago.

LTA directors want to have all campsites around Lake Texoma restored by May 1, 2008. Directors say they are urging Oklahoma lawmakers to look at Texas as an example and their efforts to restore their parks. Last month, Texas residents voted for $52 million that will be used to fund major repairs.

LTA officials say upgrading campground sites at Texoma State Park is critical for the local economy.

"We were highly encouraged about what happened in Texas. The combination of the governor, the legislators, and the voters, they put it to the voters in the state of Texas. They all supported their state parks." Edward Phillips of the Lake Texoma Association said.

Some of the campground sites are being repaired by FEMA dollars Marshall County received in August. Officials say the campsites draw at least 7 million visitors each year.
