SHERMAN, Tex. -- Sherman Police are warning residents about a possible check scam. Authorities say a woman tried to cash a check at a business in the 1900 block of Texoma Parkway when she was told the check was counterfeit.
She told police she received the check in the mail with a letter claiming she had won $198,000. In order to receive the money, she was instructed to cash the check and send the money to a man in Kent, Washington.
Police collected all the evidence and are warning area residents about the scam.
"If it’s too good to be true, then it’s probably not true. In this case it was a ‘mega lotto’. In this case they didn’t even enter in the lotto contest, but yet they still received a check saying that they had won $198,000," said Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department.
No arrests have been made in the case.
